The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga has ordered the Clerk to Parliament, Jane Kibirige to provide Dokolo woman MP, Cecilia Ogwal with security guards.
The development came after Security Minister, Elly Tuwmine allegedly threatened Cecilia’s life at the lobby when she had excused herself from the floor to go to the washroom.
“Honorable Speaker and members it is unfortunate that Gen. Elly Tumwine attacked me when I headed to the washroom. He pointed at my eyes and said he can do anything to me,” said Cecilia.
Ogwal added that if anything happens to her, Gen. Tumwine should be held accountable.
After reading the situation and seeing the house boiling, Kadaga asked the Clerk to make sure Cecilia is provided security.
“I would like to direct the Clerk to immediately give security to Honorable Cecilia Ogwal; She should get it today and be maintained for her to continue with her work here. She must come to Parliament to represent her people,” said Kadaga.
The Speaker also said that she is going to write to the Prime Minister, Ruhakana Ruguunda for more engagements.
“It was instructed by the President that any member who is threatened should be given additional security. I am going to write to the Prime Minister on the same,” added Kadaga.
The yesterday’s chaos at parliament started with Bukonjo West MP, Katushabe Atkins accusing Tumwine of facilitating the alleged shoot to kill order in Kasese district. Katushabe told the house that when he labored to reach Tumwine on phone, the latter arrogantly told him to report to the “useless” Parliament if he wants.
The revelation provoked the house resulting to the moving and passing of a resolution for Tumwine to be investigated.
A second motion was also moved and passed for another probe into Tumwine’s conduct after the alleged Cecilia attack.
