Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga was on Thursday afternoon successfully nominated to retain her seat as Woman Member of Parliament Kamuli district on the National Resistance Movement ticket.
Kadaga arrived at the nomination at 12:15PM and proceeded straight to the district registrar’s desk where she was declared a candidate after submitting the required documents.
Kadaga told journalists immediately after her nominations that she is also going to retain her Speakership seat come May 2021.
“I have been nominated as a candidate for the Kamuli Woman MP seat. I also intend to vie for Parliamentary Speakership because we as Basoga and Easterners in general have a stake in national leadership,” said Kadaga.
The Speaker said she is going to embark on the efforts to improve infrastructure development in the district.
“My priority, as MP, will be the struggle for tarmacking of 3 key roads that link Kamuli to three districts,” said Kadaga.
The roads include: Bukungu to Kimaka in Jinja; Budhumbula to Kasolo in Iganga and the road leading to Pallisa District.
“The other key priorities, to stimulate economic growth, will be repair of the ferry and introduction of avocado as a cash crop. Research shows that a farmer can earn as much as 28m/- from it,” said Kadaga.
She also promised to handle the issues of sugarcane growers in the district mainly value addition and market.
“I will also enhance the struggle for sugarcane markets and modes of value addition,” she said.
