Kabale University Sued By Staff Over Nonpayment

The wrangles between Kabale university staff and the administration over nonpayment of their salaries have taken another twist, visit web with the former deciding to drag the institution to court.

The staff under their association Kabale University Academic Staff Association are accusing the university council of holding onto their six month salary.

The staffers, totaling123, through their lawyer Justus Muhangi of Muhangi Justus and Partners’ Advocates have already served the Attorney General, University Council, the taskforce Kabale University, and the University Secretary Kabale University, with letters of intention to sue.

These say they have not been paid their six months accumulated salary arrears in their respective scales yet the university is advertizing for their positions as vacant.

Since the university was taken over by government recently, the staff members are concerned that no official communication has been made on their employment status.

The staff members now want court to give an order their salary arrears be deposited on their respective accounts and that their clients continue as employees of Kabale University without being laid off.

The intended suit is to be filed within 14 days from the serving date.

Ephraim Manzi Tumubweine the University chairperson however denied claims that the staff members posts have been advertized externally, adding the advertisement was only internal.


He says a validation process will follow and those that will be found unsuitable will have to be released.
