Kabale University, which was recently nationalized by government, will in the academic year commence teaching and awarding students at the level of Doctorates in Philosophy (PhDs).
Prof Joy Constance Kwesiga the University Vice chancellor revealed yesterday that the university will start with a three-year Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in Information Communication Technology (ICT) programme which will commence in August 2019.
The university has been offering graduate programs only up to Master’s degree.
The VC made the revelation during a meeting between the University management and a team from Ministry of Education led by the Permanent Secretary Alex Kakooza.
During the meeting, Prof Kwesiga also told them team that the university still needs more land for its expansion program.
Last year, she said, she explained this to the district leadership but there has not been any movement.
“This is the period to complete the university master plan. It would be a pity if the land doesn’t form part of the master plan,” she said.
“This is a request we are not about to drop; we need more land on this hill. We need more land from Kabale district local government.”
