A heavy storm over the weekend blew off the roofs of Bwama Health Centre III and Bwama Primary School on Bwama Island on Lake Bunyonyi, in Kitumba Sub County, Kabale district.
Patrick Besigye Keihwa the Kabale LC5 chairman says the health centre, which was constructed by Edirisa UK a local NGO had its roof blown off by the Saturday storm, and most of its equipment destroyed.
“The bad thing is that the donors had just finished building the health centre and handed it over to the district this week,” he said.
Meanwhile, the storm pulled down the roof of one of the classroom blocks of Bwama Primary School.
Keihwa says the district is planning on buying iron sheets for the destroyed classroom.
“We will also put in place measures to protect the buildings like planting trees around the school and health center as a way of averting future calamities,” he said adding that the area is prone to storms, being on the lake.
