Kabale Regional Referral Hospital has announced a temporarily suspension of x-ray services, leaving many patients stranded.
The hospital says it’s suspending the service because it hasn’t received an x-ray developer and fixer, which the machine needs to operate.
A developer solution is used in the darkroom for developing x-ray films used in conventional radiography while the x-ray fixer is a mix
of chemicals used in the final step in the photographic processing of film or paper.
Dr. Sophie Namasopo, the Kabale Hospital Director says the hospital did not receive the x-ray developer and fixer from the National Medical Stores’ recent delivery.
She says however that all necessary arrangements are being done to place an emergency order.
In the meantime, patients at the facility, who need x-ray, are being forced to go to private hospitals where they have to pay.
Peninah Kyomuhendo, a resident of Bufundi Sub County in Rubanda district whose son is among the affected patients says he was supposed to undergo an operation this week, but she was told that her son needed to go for an x-ray before the operation.
