Kabale: Rain Leaves Trail of Destruction

Residents in five villages in Kaharo sub-county, Kabale District are crying for help following a heavy downpour that destroyed their houses and crops on Sunday evening.

Heavy rainfall accompanied by hailstorms and gusty winds destroyed at least 15 houses and a number of plantations in Kaharo

Edmond Tumwesigye the Kaharo sub county LCIII chairperson says the rain that begun at around 4pm pounded the area for close to three hours leaving many properties and gardens of crops destroyed in villages including Kayorero and Kabungo in Katenga parish.

Tumwesigye says besides the 15 damaged houses, gardens of crops like beans and banana plantations were washed away by floods.

About five people were reported injured, namely Henry Kasimbazi, one Bayanga, Zeridah Katambira, Daubline Nasasira and his wife Gift Ninsiima who were hit by their houses.

These are admitted at Bukinda health centre III.

“Some of the affected residents slept outside. Government should come in to help its people,” said Tumwesigye.
