Parents at Kijonjo Church of Uganda Primary School have come out to oppose a decision by the school authorities to lease the school’s land located in Buhara sub county, in Kabale district.
Recently, the school authorities advertised a 3-acre land for leasing which sparked suspicion among some parents.
The authorities headed by the Overseer Rev Nelson Nyehangane and the school head teacher Julius Twinomujuni revealed that the land was advertised and Indian construction company SINO Company took interest to construct and iron ore factory.
The authorities say they needed to lease this land to help develop the school.
However, some of the parents are unhappy that they were never consulted about the deal.
Davis Turyamwijuka, who heads that parents’ association expressed concern that the proposed factory would create a lot of noise and destruction to the school.
Johnson Baguma another parent who is also the Buhara sub county LC V councillor, says if the parents are not interested in the project, the project should be moved somewhere else.
However, the school authorities noted that the matter is being handled by diocese officials and appealed to parents to remain calm if they don’t support the idea.
