Kabale NGO Boss Arrested For Defiling Street Children

Police in Kabale district have arrested one man, who is accused among others of sexually abusing underage street children under his care.

The suspect, Junior Set Tukwasibwe is the Director of Educate a Child Uganda, an NGO that operates in Kabale district.

He’s being accused of aggravated defilement and trafficking of children.

Tukwasibwe was arrested by police after the founder of the NGO, an American national named  Greg Stone lodged a complaint after some of the girls came to him to report the abuse.

Some of the girls that spoke to us anonymously said Tukwasibwe abused them sexually while threatening to kick them out of the organization if they didn’t give in.

One of the girls told us the suspect used to take them to one of the lodges in Kabale town, and that he helped procure abortion to some of them who got pregnant.

She says many of them being orphans couldn’t risk being thrown out of the organization which has been among others helping pay their school fees.

Local Police by publication of this story were yet to respond to our request for comments on the matter.

However, the Uganda Police CID Spokesman Vincent Sekate confirmed the arrest, telling us investigations in the matter are underway.

“We are still investigating  and when everything is done we shall take him to court and charge him with aggravated defilement and aggravated trafficking of children,” Sekate said.

Mr Greg Stone says he started funding the street children project in 2015 after seeing the plight of the young children, mostly the girls, and what they were going through on the streets of Kabale.

He says he and Tukwasibwe joined hands and started the NGO with 12 street kids, which number had since grown to 150.

He says he is now in the process of forming a new NGO and is taking the girls with him.
