A 37 year old former convict in Kabale district yesterday died after falling off a cliff while fleeing from angry residents.
Odomaro Mucunguzi, a resident of Nyarungwe cell in Kaharo Sub County, was a habitual offender who had just been released from Ndorwa government prison after serving his sentence for murder.
Upon getting out, Mucunguzi is said to have attacked his elder brother, one Pakalasio Kabarekye, and cut him with a machete, injuring him seriously.
He reportedly accused him of abandoning him in jail.
A case was reported at Kaharo police post and a man hunt was launched.
On Sunday however, Mucunguzi resurfaced and invaded his entire family, allegedly to kill them over a land dispute.
It was then that the family members made an alarm which attracted other residents, who chased after Mucunguzi.
As he fled for safety, the former convict fell off the Kabaraga cliff, rolled down the valley and ended up in a trench where he died instantly.
Elly Maate the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman says police was notified, visited the scene, and his body taken to Kabale referral hospital mortuary for post-mortem.
