Authorities from Kabale district health department are concerned about the reduction of men and women who use condom in the district.
According to statistics from the district health department, 117 females used female condoms while 13746 used male condoms from January to August this year.
The number was recorded across public health facilities in the district.
The acting Kabale District Health Officer Alfred Besigensi told our reporter that the number of men and females using condoms has reduced compared to last year where over 150 females used female condoms while 15746 used male condoms from January to August.
Besigensi blamed to the increasing teenage pregnancies in the district to failure by the men and girls to use condoms.
He also said unprotected sex poses the partners to sexual transmitted diseases such as HIV/AID and asked political and religious leaders to encourage the public to embrace use of condoms.
Kabale district has registered 2618 cases of teenage pregnancies in the last seven months. The cases were registered across both private and health facilities between January and July this year from a total of 17309 of pregnancies.
