High Court in Kabale on Monday sentenced Dominic Twinomuhangi, the former Mwanjari Market Traders Association chairperson to 35 years in prison for the gruesome murder of his wife in 2012.
Court’s Justice Moses Kawumi Kazibwe heard from Prosecution led by state attorney Gloria Inzikuru, that on 29th July 2012, Twinomuhangi while at Kabangara Cell in the Southern Division of Kabale Municipality caused the death of his wife Rose Asasira, then a teacher at Makanga Primary School.
The Prosecution had pleaded for a deterrent sentence of at least 60 years for the convict, considering that murders related to domestic violence are on the rise in the area.
Twinomuhangi on the other hand admitted to the crime and pleaded fora lenient sentence, saying that he was remorseful and had medical complications such as paralysis, hypertension, high blood pressure, diabetes, ulcers and asthma.
Justice Kazibwe in his judgment said he was satisfied with the evidence provided by eight prosecution witnesses and sentenced the convict to 35 years.
The sentence he said put into consideration the fact that he was remorseful, ill and had spent 5 years on remand.
