Rachel Lucky Guhirwa, the bride that was on May 5th 2020 involved in a fatal accident along the Kabale-Katuna Kisoro which killed her two friends has finally exchanged marriage vows with her husband.
Guhirwa on the fateful day, was traveling to Kisoro with her friends Barbra Natukunda (who was to be her matron) and her husband Hilary Namanya, for the wedding.
Both Natukunda and Namanya died in the crash at Kagano where their car overturned. Guhirwa was hospitalized with severe injuries at Kabale Regional Referral hospital.
Yesterday, Guhirwa finally walked down the aisle with Nelson Yumvirusaba, a statistician with Uganda Bureau of Statistics.
The wedding this time was held in Kabale at St Marks Church of Uganda Kikungiri and was presided over by Rev. Jonath Niyonzima of St. Andrews cathedral Seseme in Kisoro district.
One of the family members said they decided to have the wedding in Kabale because the bride was still recovering from her injures and also because they needed to avoid the bad memories of Kanaba.
“My sister and friend Racheal is also called Guhirwa which is a Rufumbira word to mean lucky; or the one who is blessed) and as with her name, she is indeed lucky and blessed,” said Laban Joseph Niyongabo her brother.
The newlyweds later hosted a “scientific” reception at Kirigime guest house that was attended by handful of relatives.
Guhirwa works with Uganda Health Marketing Group in Kampala.
