Kabaka Mutesa’s Rolls Royce to be Fully Restored

The Katikiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga has announced the Kingdom  plans to repair and fully restore the Rolls Royce vehicle which the central government handed back to the kingdom yesterday.

The said vehicle belonged to Sir Edward Mutesa ii, the first Ugandan President at Kabaka of Buganda who is the father of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi ii the current King for Buganda.
Upon receiving the vehicle at Bulange Mengo , Mayiga applauded Government for considering the Kabaka’s request to have this car returned to the Kingdom.
“We are going to do a full restoration of this vehicle to its glory . We shall unveil the full program for this in future,” he said.
Mayiga also reminded the Government to work with the Kingdom to ensure that even other vintage cars which used to transport members of the royal family are returned.
Prince David Kintu Wasajja who received the vehicle from the Uganda  Museum where it has been kept for a long time, praised government for the good gesture.
“This car is of great significance to the Kingdom and almost every member of the Royal family has got an emotional attachment to it.”
While handing over this Rolls Royce , Hon Tom Butime the Minister for Tourism and antiquities asked the Kingdom officials to keep this as memorial treasure and at the same time provide access to the rest of Ugandans to view it.
“The cabinet minute number 456 (CT 2019) that was Approved by President to donate this Rolls Royce Limousine to Buganda Kingdom in line with the request of the Kabaka.” The minister said.
This vehicle was bought in 1964 by the government of Uganda to be used by Sir Edward Mutesa who  was the (First) President of Uganda.
In 2013 , it was transferred from State house were it was being kept, to the Museum as a Vintage object that deserved to be preserved.
