Kabaka Mutebi Tips Parents, Teachers on Talent Spotting

The Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II has called on teachers and parents to discover and develop different talents in young children.

Speaking at the handover of Buganda Royal Arts Shields to the primary and secondary schools that won annual MDD competitions at Mengo SS, Mutebi said teachers should be sensitized about discovering a developing talents of students and shun the mentality that vocational education is for the weak and failed students.

The king also described the way children are being taught nowadays as alarming.

“The alarming issue is the way our children are taught. We expect any education program to be leaned on questions like the nature of nation we want to build, what to teach our children in order to build a nation we yearn for and how we should educate our children. I hope that teachers and parents present are aware that these issues are very vital and we therefore need to put them into practice if we have the spirit of building our nation,” he said.

“We have all the potential to change our country if our schools begin looking at students’ abilities like talents and vocational skills. To achieve this, our teachers need to be sensitized about issues concerning discovering and developing talents in students and also to shun the mentality that vocational education is for weak and failed students.”

The Kabaka on the other hand appreciated all the schools that took part in the competitions and heads of schools that support programs implemented by the Mengo government.

He also inspected various Innovative exhibitions showcased by students of Mengo SS.
