Justice Kakuru Eulogizes Fallen Mother

Hundreds of mourners on Thursday converged at All Saints church in Nakasero for the funeral service of Canon Roza Kamujanduzi, the mother to Court of Appeal Justice Kenneth Kakuru who passed away at 103 years of age.

The service was attended by a wide range of people including officials from the Judiciary, government ministers among others.

Speaking to the mourners, Justice Kakuru, the last born of 12 children described his parents as a faithful couple which never yearned for earthly things but a Godly life.

He gave an example of their father the late Kamujanduzi who decided to quit the post of headmaster at Bweranyagi Girls where he used to earn 60 shillings per month, and went to serve church that paid him 6 shillings per month.

Kakuru asked people to be like his mother.

“Our family is not known for owning big investments or ranches but for being a family of God. If you think acquiring wealth is one of the sources of happiness, you are wrong” he said.

Justice Kakuru said he himself, does not live a luxurious life, and that he has only one pair of shoes which was bought to him by his wife as a birthday gift.

“I say good bye to my mother with joy because she has done for us almost everything and she has died a God fearing person.”


Hon Ephraim Kamuntu, the Minster for Justice and Constitutional affairs applauded the deceased’s family for having granted him an opportunity to study during his early days.

“I was raised by Kamujanduzi family although I was not their biological child. Mother taught us to be loving and God fearing which we have to pass on to the next generation.”

Deputy Chief Justice Aliphonse Owiny Dollo thanked his comrade Kakuru for not shaming his parents by living a responsible and respectable lifestyle as described by family members and friends

Mary Karoro Okurut the minster for General duties described the deceased as a faithful woman who groomed well her children and grandchildren.

“She gave her family a great foundation in education and faith and I wish one of my children could get married to this family.”

Lay Canon Roza K Kamujanduzi has was born in 1918 in a family of Samuel Butsya and Esther Batoorwa at Nyabubare, Bumbaire Igara.
