The Lira District Police Commander, Joel Tubanone has been transferred to Kayunga district days after security deteriorated in the northern district.
Deputy Police Spokesman, Patrick Onyango confirmed the development to ChimpReports on Friday morning.
According to Onyango, Tubanone has been replaced by Superintendent of Police George Obia who has been serving as DPC Kayunga.
“It is true Joel Tubanone has been transferred to Kayunga as DPC. He was replaced by SP Obia George from Kayunga,” said Onyango.
SP Obia once served as the Regional Police Public Relations Officer for Mt. Moroto before becoming DPC Moroto where he served for a long time.
He was then taken for a course to Bwebajja Police Training school in Kampala and posted to Kayunga after the successful completion of his course.
The removal of Tubanone from Lira comes a week after the meeting between Lango Parliamentary Group (LPG) and Security Minister, Gen. Elly Tumwine.
According to sources who attended the closed door meeting which took place at the Office of the Prime Minister, LPG members led by Oyam woman MP, Santa Alum demanded for the transfer of Tubanone from Lira.
The legislators also want the closed radio Unity FM reopened and charges against all its workers dropped.
Lira and Kole districts erupted in violence following the death of 11 year old Dickens Okello allegedly at the hands of two Indians currently detained in Soroti.
The community accused the police of mismanaging the case.
