The seven Supreme Court Justices led by Chief Justice Bart Katureebe will today Thursday deliver their judgment in the petition challenging the age limit constitutional amendment which was upheld last year by the Constitutional Court.
Chief Justice Katureebe had asked the parties to be patient, saying the judgement would take more than 60 days since there were a lot of issues (procedure) which needed to be considered.
“You have to write your judgement and share with the rest of the judges on the panel before you pronounce yourself,” Katureebe said in January 2019.
Attorney General William Byaruhanga asked court to dismiss the appeal with costs, saying the constitutional court judges acted in law when they upheld the lifting of the Presidential Age limit amendment.
Counsel Erias Lukwago and Ladslaus Rwakafuuzi asked court to nullify the decision of the majority justices of Constitutional saying that it would set a bad precedent in the legal system of this country.
The seven justices include Chief justice Bart Katureebe, Eldad Mwangushya , Rubby Opio Aweeri, Paul Mugamba , Jotham Tumwesigye and Stella Arach Amoko
The three appellants include Six Members of Parliament led by former leader of Opposition Hon Winnie Kiiza, Hassan Kassim Male Mabirizi and Uganda Law society.
