Uganda’s long distance runner Joshua Cheptegei has departed to Spain ahead of the Valencia World Record Day on Wednesday at Turia stadium.
The event will also serve as an Autonomous Championship of 10,000 meters with several series for Valencian athletes.
Cheptegei will be aiming at breaking the 15-year old 10,000m world record set by Ethiopian Kenenisa Bekele in Brussels, Belgium in 2005.
Recently, the Ugandan athlete smashed Bekele’s world record in the 5000m having posted a 12:35.36 in Monaco.
Cheptegei who also holds world road records over 5km and 15km, will be making advantage of the pace makers and Wavelight technology to break the 10,000m world record.
He will also lead Team Uganda at the World Athletics Half Marathon Championships in Gdynia on the 17th October alongside Jacob Kiplimo.
