Jinja Set to Host World Tourism Day

World Tourism Day celebrations for this year will be held in Jinja town starting 27th September, officials have announced.

The celebrations will be running under the theme “Tourism and the Digital Transformation” which seeks to provide a platform for investment, partnerships and collaboration towards a more responsible and inclusive tourism sector.

Minister of State for Tourism Wildlife and Antiquities Hon Godfrey Kiwanda Ssubi announced yesterday that the chief guest at the event will be Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga.

Hon Kiwanda says the event will provide a platform to promote Uganda’s visibility as an inclusive and accessible tourism destination and also to raise awareness about the need for digital transformation in the tourism industry.

“The event will also help us showcase the new development at the Uganda Hotel and Tourism Training Institute and the Source of the Nile in Jinja” he revealed.

Activities prepared for the main celebrations include Sports Gala at Makerere Business School, Smart Youth Tourism Conference at Hotel Africana, Tourism Dinner at Sheraton Hotel, Exhibitions, Busoga Regional Tourism Conference and the closing function on Sunday 30th in Jinja District at the Municipal grounds.
