The Jinja district schools football finals that were scheduled for Friday have been postponed until further notice, this website has learnt.
The decision to postpone the final arose after a standoff between Jinja Senior secondary school refused to play Jinja Progressive at the Senior staff Command college in Kimaka.
Recent finals that have involved the two arch-rivals have been played inside the army college in a bid to curb crowd trouble between the two sets of fans/students.
Initially, the organizing committee had scheduled the final to be played at Kakindu stadium but, according to communication sent on Thursday to the two sides, they had changed to Kimaka.
Nyago stands ground
However, Jinja SSS head teacher, Dianah Nyago has written to the body informing them that they will not honour the game if it is played inside the stadium.
Nyago reasons that, the change of venue is ‘time barred’ and that the security reason is unsubstantiated.
“The ‘un-healthy atmosphere’ alluded to is un-substantiated,” states in her strong worded letter adding that “instead this is meant to incite violence among the learners and also to insinuate that we, as head teachers, have failed to manage discipline in our schools.”
The head teacher has asked the organizers to put in place measures to curb any violence.
She ended a letter with a warning that Jinja SSS “shall not be coerced to play at Kimaka because it is not a neutral ground.”
She also adds that playing the district final inside the military facility will dent the district’s image ahead of the national Post Primary (Football) games that will be hosted by Jinja College in the district.
Efforts to get an official comment from the organizers were futile by press time but an insider in formed us that the game has been called off until the body holds an “emergence crisis meeting”.
Jinja SSS thrashed Busoga College Mwiri 8-0 to reach the finals as JiPRA edged Budondo SS 1-0.
