Retired Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi has been nominated to contest as Member of Parliament for Rujumbura constituency in Rukungiri District, South Western Uganda on the ruling NRM party ticket.
“This begins the road towards reviving development in Rujumbura which had stagnated,” Muhwezi said on Thursday after being nominated.
“Working with my NRM government, we will invoke the change of people’s mindset to work not only to work for consumption but for sell to generate income for their household,” he emphasised.
The former Information Minister recently won the NRM with a landslide of 80% which he said was a huge step forward in reclaiming the area MP seat in the 2021 elections.
Muhwezi, who in 2016 lost the MP race to opposition FDC candidate, Fred Turyamuhweza, promised to lobby government to extend electricity and water to all homesteads.
“We will improve the infrastructure especially roads, social services such as schools and have enough medicine in health centres,” he added.
Muhwezi was flanked by his wife, Susan and supporters.
“I will make sure I start where I left 5 years ago and lobby for more government programmes and extension of social services,” said Muhwezi, adding, “We must create jobs for the youth through factories, oil production and tourism.”
