As dates draw near for he much awaited Jonnie Walker Jazz Soul Safari, show headliners have been revealed.
During a press briefing at Club Guvnor on Tuesday, the event proprietors Tshaka Mayanja and Elijah Kitaka announced Yola Semedo and Marcus Anderson as some of the performers to look out for.
The show, slated for September 2, 2017 will for the first time feature “Kizomba” music.
Originating in Angola, Kizomba is a ‘first cousin’ of Zouk, and is characterized by a slower and usually very romantic rhythm.
Somendo is an Angolan star, also regarded as one of the finest exponents of Kizomba.
Semedo is the lead singer for the ‘Impactus 4’ family band, founded in Lobito, Angola in 1982 by Mr. Orlando Semedo. Her performances also include genres like jazz, neo-soul and R&B.
Marcus Anderson on the other hand, is one of the world’s most sought-after saxophonists.
Marcus, to date, has eight albums and accompanying acts such as CeeLo Green and Judith Hill.
During the press briefing, Uganda Breweries’ Head of Whisky Portfolio, Annette Nakiyaga said, “Johnnie Walker is a brand that represents continuity and success, which is what the Jazz & Soul Safari stands for.”
Juliana Kaggwa, the overall marketing manager at UBL said “We’re proud to be here for the first time.”
“We want our consumers to have an improved experience of Johnnie Walker at the event,” she added.
Tshaka Mayanja, the proprietor of the event told Journalists that “For the last nine years, we’ve explored American Contemporary Music, Jazz, funk and soul/R&B music.”
“We’ve showcased some of the finest artists and musicians in these genres on our illustrious stage,” he added.
“To celebrate the tenth anniversary milestone, we are featuring the global phenomenon that is Kizomba music,” he concluded.
