The annual commemoration of former Archbishop of Church of Uganda Janani Luwum will be held on 16th February 2020 at Mucwini in Kitgum district.
Addressing reporters about the event, Government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo said the celebrations will be held under the theme “Let us not get tired of doing good.”
Luwum was the Archbishop of Uganda from 1974 to 1977.
He was arrested in February 1977 and killed shortly afterwards.
Although the official account describes a car crash, it is generally accepted that he was murdered on orders of the then President Idi Amin Dada.
In 2015, President Museveni declared every 16th February a public holiday in memory of the fallen Archbishop.
The Church of Uganda building known as Church House in Kampala City Centre was named after him in his memory.
