Jailed Former MP Kipoi Applies for Amnesty

Tonny Kipoi Nsubuga, the former Member of Parliament for Bubulo West who is facing treason charges before Makindye General Court Martial has admitted the charges and asked for forgiveness.

This matter came up for hearing of Tuesday. In the dock, Kipoi denounced his participation in subversive activities which were aimed to over throw the government of Uganda

When he was asked for the record to prove whether he had participated in commission of the offences, he confirm that he did, and asked for forgiveness so that he can be able to live a new life

“I denounce any acts of rebellion against the state because I have not gained from them,” Kipoi told court

Court learnt that Kipoi had filed a formal application seeking Amnesty which is awaiting approval

On receiving this information, the state prosecution team led by Lt Col Raphael Mugisha asked court to grant them an adjournment to consult the investigating team to agree on the next step

Court chairman Lt Gen Andrew Gutti adjourned the matter to 27th May 2019 and the accused was remanded back to Makindye Military Prison

Kipoi was last year arrested in Botswana before being extradited back to Uganda and charged together with other UPDF soldiers of plotting to overthrow government
