Iran Commends Uganda’s Fight Against COVID-19

Muhammad Rezor Ghezelsofla, the Cultural Counselor of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, has commended the government efforts in fighting against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ghezelsofla noted that the Ministry of Health’s preventative measures which include; regular washing of hands or sanitizing, wearing face masks and maintaining social distance, which was adopted by the government helped in combating the pandemic especially in its advanced stage,

“Prevention is the best thing that everybody should do in order to fight this pandemic and that is why people need to follow the regulations issued by the government,” he said.

On adherence to the COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures, Ghezelsofla noted that people need to maintain sanitation as well and make sure that SOPs are not defied due to the danger of COVID-19.

He made these remarks while speaking to Chimpreports on Sunday on the sidelines of the funeral prayers for the Second Deputy Prime Minister Al-hajj Kirunda Kiveijinja, who succumbed to covid-19 on Saturday at Mulago Referral Hospital.

“Sanitation is one of the things we have to observe so that we protect ourselves from dangerous diseases, including covid-19,” Ghezelsofla noted.

Commenting on the late, Ghezelsofla termed Kiveijinja as a strong leader who has done his best and left the legacies which will be followed by others.

He noted that it is upon such untimely deaths that Ugandans should reflect and protect themselves against the deadly pandemic.

While addressing mourners, mufti Shaban Ramathan Mubajje, the mufti of Uganda, and leader of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) warned Ugandans on the wrath of covid-19 and gave examples on how it has started claiming lives of important people, including; fallen Kiveijinja.

“When a common man for example; Suleiman from Mbarara or John from Mt. Elgon die, people don’t care and in fact they call it a mere fever. But now we have started losing important people, recently we lost the chairman of the UMSC and now we have lost the Deputy Minister people will start taking the disease serious,” he said

“Allah is showing his supremacy, if the British Prime Minister and his counterpart of USA also fell sick and for Uganda people to understand that covid-19 is a reality, it will fetch more prominent people and they will now realize that if prominent people fall sick what of the commoners,” he added.

Uganda has recoded over 30,000 covid-19 cases with over 230 deaths since its outbreak.
