Investigation: How Sex Workers Led To Massive Crackdown On Boda Boda Thefts

When a CCTV footage of two men killing a Boda Boda rider went viral on social media, it sparked off mixed reactions from the public on whether police would arrest the suspects.

Immediately, Police Special Investigations Unit and flying squad intensified a crackdown on boda boda thefts which had become a common crime in the past days.

Chimp corps closely followed up the investigations and established how police picked up tips which led to the arrest of the two suspects who committed the murder.

This investigative website learnt that the criminal’s cover was blown up by sex workers at a popular bar (Names withheld) which is also a spot of all sorts of criminals located in Makindye.

It is at this bar where the first suspect, a one Mugisha John Bosco allias Mukiga Mugisha said that his colleague had been killed from.

He made the confession immediately he was arrested.

“It is said that the suspect has also confessed that Young Mullo was killed by a mob on 3/7/2019 on suspicion that he had stolen a motorcycle,” reads part of the press release by Patrick Onyango, Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesman.

Security sources privy to  the investigations told chimp corps that a group of sex workers that operate at the bar are the one’s that tipped a boda boda rider who was about to fall victim of the killer duo.

They said the suspects went to the bar and after a few hours moved out and tried to negotiate with the unsuspecting rider to carry them home.

“At this point is when a group of prostitutes that were standing outside the bar intervened and advised the boda boda rider not to carry the two men,” said the source.

According to sources, the women then shouted that the two men were the killers who had appeared in a video that went viral in the previous days.

A mob immediately pounced on them but John Bosco escaped leaving behind his colleague (Young Mulo) whose names were later identified as Aloysius Tamale.

This was barely five days after they had gruesomely killed a one Derick Muwonge, a boda boda rider from Kakeeka Mengo in Rubaga division.

Young Mulo was beaten to near death; Police picked his body (thinking he was dead) and took it to Mulago mortuary. After receiving treatment for like three days, he reportedly escaped from the hospital.

Katwe police division immediately sanctioned a crackdown on suspected criminal’s gangs dealing in used motorcycles and spare part in southern Kampala division.

Several shops said to buy stolen motorcycles were raided in Ndeeba, Katwe and Nalukolongo.

“At total of 45 stolen motorcycles were recovered and 13 suspects arrested,” Mr Enanga said.

Similarly, a few days later John Bosco Mugisha was arrested from Ndeeba at Nsiike 1 zone, a hot bed of criminals and a hub of stolen motorcycles and spare parts in Kampala.

On Friday, Tamale Aloysius aka Young Mulo was arrested in Bukalango while hiding in a shrine.

He also confessed to killing the boda boda rider in Kakeeka Mengo with John Bosco Mugisha.

They were both taken by security operatives and reconstructed the scene of crime.

Relatedly, Saturday, police in Mukono arrested three suspects in connection to theft of motorcycles in the district.
