INTERVIEW: I am the Most Proficient Winger – Soana’s Allan Kayiwa

Allan Kayiwa, the Soana young ace has been firing on all the cylinders, in the concluded season.

It wasn’t his best, but that Man of the match perfomance (among the many) against Mujib Kasule’s Proline FC at Philip Omondi stadium in Lugogo where he scored one and assisted the other for Frank Kalanda in a 2-1 victory, stood out.

ChimpReports’ Brian Kawalya met the youngster, and below are some of the memorable excerpts from the conversation.

Last year your performance was way up there and Coach Micho called you on the National Team (preparations for Comoros and Regional tour) but it hasnt been the same this concluded season, Why has your form dipped?

A Change in coaches has led to changes in the systems we play.

Every coach comes with his own style and you have to adjust to fit in. It was Sam Ssimbwa but now it’s Isabirye.

So who do you think is a better Coach, Isabirye or Ssimbwa?

Difficult to tell; Isabirye came at the bad time when we were struggling, but if he stays for long we will strike again.

For Sam Ssimbwa, it’s winning first, but Isabirye is a better tactician.

Has any team approached you yet?

Many, but of recent, I turned down an offer from URA FC. I don’t want to move away at the moment.

With Soana signing Muwada Mawejje – do you see your number threatened?

Not at all, I know my ability but above all I entertain the competition.

Tell us your debut match and first goal at Soana FC

My first match with Soana I remember was against Bidco in Jinja, I came off the bench. Then my first goal (thinks for a time) it was against Rwenshama in the league.

What contract do you have with Soana?

I signed a 3 year contract with the club, and it’s ending this coming season. Next year, I am a free agent.

In your professional career so far, what has been your best goal?

I have scored many beauties but the one I scored against Villa at Nakivubo I think stands out.

(Kayiwa picked the ball in his own half, drove the ball across the centre-line before launching a thunderous strike that Villa keeper Nicholas Ssebwato couldn’t try. His goal made it 2-1, game ended 3-3 with Wagaluka and Musa Esenu scoring the other for Soana)

Who is your best friend at the club?

Davis Ssali (Right winger), he’s a good buddy and we have been together from school, Zzana mixed.

What are your ambitions?

Going outside Uganda and test some new competitions like in Europe.

Who do u look up to in this business?

I am an Arsenal fan, but I have a huge respect for Luis Suarez. His consistency since the Ajax days and also managing to do wonders at Uruguay is what i admire.

Do you consider yourself as the best young talent in the country?

Without doubt, I believe in myself, its just that am not in a title contending club like Okello (KCCA fc) or Zaga (Vipers).

Tell us the toughest opponent you have ever faced

(Without thinking) Nicholas Wadada! He always gives me hard time everytime we face Vipers.

He just matches my pace and very hard on the ball.

Best advice you have ever recieved

I normally receive alot from my assistant coach, Mutono David, he always keeps telling me to never give up, he’s been pivotal in my career and he’s the one who took me to Soana.

What they Say

David Mutono (Assistant Coach Soana FC): I brought Allan at the club because I had seen an X-factor in him. He is an obedient son, he is so hard working.

Ronnie Lusulire (Proline FC PR and SK13): Allan Kayiwa is to me one of the most talented players in Uganda blessed with skill and pace.

But he needs to add in extra work to keep up there and the people around him should always advise him positively becuase he is still a young lad with a very bright future ahead of him.

Efrobert Kasujja (Journalist at CBS FM and Soana FC fan): The lad has axtra ordinary talent.

He beats off defenders with pace and skill, his deliveries are always on point. He is the best at his age.
