Richard Nuwagaba, click a second year student doing a Bachelors in Education has been declared winner of this year’s Ibanda University Guild presidential elections.
Nuwagaba was running on an independent ticket in the highly contested two man race.
He managed 250 votes (52%) against his contender Baker Magezi who polled 221 (47%).
The Guild Electoral Commission chairperson, Edith Mulyahabwe says the voter turn up was impressive despite the fact that the candidates were given only 2 weeks to campaign.
The EC boss was also happy that this year’s guild elections mirrored for the first time national multipartism.
The new Guild boss Nuwagaba replaces Emmanuel Twesigye and becomes the third guild president since the university’s establishment.
In his speech, he promised to work hard for all students at the university and called up his unsuccessful competitor and his opposition to join him to work for the good of the university.
