In Pictures: How Police Quelled Taxi Drivers Protest

Police in Kampala this morning spent a number of hours battling taxi drivers who insisted on getting back on the road without the required documents.

Scores of drivers from the new taxi park stormed the Clock Tower Police booth where they had received information that some of their colleagues coming from Entebbe road and Kibuye had been arrested.

The drivers then demanded the immediate release of their colleagues

“We are not going anywhere. May of our friends were arrested here and bundled into a Police coaster which was parked here at Fire brigade headquarters.”  One taxi driver remarked

The protesters said arresting people who have been stuck at home was harsh.

They declined to listen to the appeal by head of operations at CPS ASP Nduhura Ivan later on they marched toward to CPS in a procession which was intercepted at Old Taxi park and some of their leaders were arrested.
