Prime Minister of Buganda Kingdom Charles Peter Mayiga has come out to pour cold water of spreading rumors about an alleged deal that would make him the next Vice President of Uganda.
The rumour sprouted last week following President Yoweri Museveni’s visit to Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi’s palace in Banda, which was attended by Mr Mayiga and a host of other kingdom officials.
The claims, which spread on various social media platforms suggested the president had gone to hammer out a deal with the Katikkiro.
The Banda meeting came days after Prime Minister Mayiga during a Lukiiko meeting in Mengo, described President Museveni’s government as better than the former governments.
Mayiga however, sought to put these rumors to rest yesterday in a social media post, terming them as baseless.
“Rumours are being spread that am going to be appointed Vice President; and that that’s the reason President Museveni was hosted by Kabaka Mutebi at his Bbanda Palace so the President might brief the King,” he wrote.
“I am not the next Vice President.”
Mayiga stressed that he is still engaged with the work entrusted to him by the Kabaka, adding; “There’s no reason for under table deals.”
Following the Banda meeting, President Museveni has since ordered the Ministry of Finance to pay the Kingdom’s arrears on top of returning back the land titles which are still in the hands of the central government.
