Inspector General of police Okoth Martin Ochola has set up a special disciplinary committee to carry out investigations on the senior police officer who was arrested in a foiled robbery attempt.
This was revealed by the spokesperson CP Fred Enanga in an interview at police headquarters in Naguru.
According to Enanga, territorial police in Kampala metropolitan is also actively following up the circumstances under which a police officer identified as ASP Amutuhaire Bright was allegedly arrested for an illegal traffic stop, with intention to extort money from a fish dealer.
“We are processing him for demanding money by menaces and a disciplinary task team has been instituted under the guidance of inspector general of police to ensure that the officer is prosecuted in the disciplinary court for discreditable conduct,” Mr Enanga said.
He added that once the officer is found guilty, it will lead to his dismissal.
On Sunday, the suspected officer with an accomplice a one Musinguzi Richard while driving a Toyota mark II number UAW 714B intercepted a businessman called Kisuka Tom along Entebbe road with an intention of extorting money from him.
“Although, there was no violence, it is believed the officer used his uniform and authority to intimidate the victim, with the intention of extorting,” Mr. Enanga added.
