IGP Ochola Commends Gold Medalist IP Cheptegei

The Inspector General of Police Okoth Martins Ochola has congratulated his police officer also world class athletics champion Joshua Cheptegei upon winning a gold medal last weekend in Denmark.

Cheptegei finished first in a very competitive 10,000 meter run when he beat 146 world class runners.

Mr Ochola in a message read out by police publicist CP Fred Enanga described Cheptegei’s win as a remarkable accomplishment.

“IP Cheptegei earned a podium place in a race which was very tough,” Mr Ochola said.

According to the police boss, Cheptegei’s win has placed him in the agency book of records like the late John Akibua.

Mr Ochola praised the champion junior police officer for his discipline saying that it has earned prestige to him, Police and Uganda as a country.

Last year, Cheptegei won Commonwealth gold in the 5000 and 10000m at the Gold Coast, Australia.

Police said that they are organizing a welcome event in which Mr Ochola shall meet Cheptegei and the team.


On Promotion of Cheptegei, Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said that it will depend on the police boss himself.
