Over the weekend, the Inspector General of Police Okoth Martins Ochola closed down a community policing police post in Muyenga that was set up by former police boss Kale Kayihura.
The Police Post has been the main model station for community policing located just in the neighborhood of General Kayihura’s residence.
According to police, the decision was taken after the owner of the land approached the authorities that he needs to develop it.
“The Uganda police force took the decision to close down this police station given the fact that the land is not ours and the registered owners want to develop it.” reads part of the statement by police.
While addressing the press on Monday in Kampala, Police Spokesman SSP Emilian Kayima said police however is not yet ready to close other community policing stations in Bukasa and Kusugu.
He also assured Muyenga residents that their security is still guaranteed saying that more reinforcement is to be done at Kabalagala police station.
The station that was set up by Kayihura had been the center of security to the posh residences of the suburb.
The post was manned by mostly heavily armed counter terrorism police forces who were also patrolling the area.
