The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda has on November 2nd unveiled a series of activities to celebrate the International Accountants Day which is due November 10.
The two-day event will be held at UMA Exhibition hall in Lugogo with the sole purpose of guiding those in business on how to approach challenges related to financial management, resource allocation and mobilization of funds and sustainability among others.
ICPA Uganda will join the rest of the World to commemorate the international Accountants Day with a number of free activities including; Accountancy Services which will see over 30 accounting firms offering PRO-BONO services to both small scale and medium Enterprises, Women Entrepreneurs Mentorship, Business engagement forum and the 2018 Financial Reporting (FiRe) Awards ceremony which will be at the Kampala Serena Conference center in November 14.
While addressing journalists at their offices in Bukoto-Kampala, CPA Ruth Doreen Mutobe encouraged the public to embrace the PRO-BONO offer and be vigilant on the kind of Accountants they choose to work with.
“We invite the general public, especially the business community to come and enjoy free accountancy services in November 9-10. Some of you may have been lacking these services which are perceived as expensive and we as ICPA Uganda are offering them to you for free.”
“When you attend this program, you will surely leave UMA well knowing the difference between the Professional Accountants and the Quack ones which have been reported to have dominated the Accounting sector,” said Ms. Mutobe.
Mutobe also added that it will be a very big opportunity for Women in business to access free accountancy services.
“The program will also consider boosting women entrepreneurship, recognizing and supporting the distinctive nature of women business startups and ensure that newly-established Women entrepreneurs can sustain their businesses,” Mutobe added.
The institute has partnered with two member organizations; KACITA and AUTO so as to encourage their members to be part of the Forum.
CPA Stephen Ineget the Chairperson FiRe Committee highlighted the essence of the financial reporting Awards ceremony as the climax of the Accountants services week where the best evaluated financial reports under various categories will be awarded.”
Ineget also noted that all the entrants will receive evaluation reports to enrich their approach financial reporting on matters ranging from transparency, integrity and accountability for a wider integrated approach in the corporate process.
Established in 1992 by an act of Parliament, ICPA Uganda is a national Professional accountancy Organization which was incorporated as the Accountants Act 2013 to regulate and maintain the standard of accountancy in Uganda, prescribe and regulate the conduct of accountants and practicing accountants in Uganda.
The Organization so far has over 2000 member accountants representing the Country in Public practice, Education, Government service, industry and Commerce.
Since its establishment, the institute has registered tremendous achievements in towards the economic growth of the Country such as; the growth of accountancy professionalism in Uganda and beyond, improvement in the standard of financial reporting, submission of the policy recommendations to Government focusing on matters of financial management and taxation among others.
