The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) on Friday , during the annual Accountancy Service Awards, recognized individuals and companies that have made an outstanding contribution to the accountancy profession in Uganda.
Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) and Stanbic Bank scooped the best finance team of the year, for the public sector category and private sector category respectively, while Dativa &Associates was awarded as the accounting firm of the year.
Reproductive Health Uganda was awarded as the outstanding organization using accountancy service to serve community.
Individual accountants like CPA Stanley Mwogeza, the Chief Finance Officer at Stanbic Bank was awarded as the accountant of the year, CPA David Kiwanuka, the internal auditor, National Drug Authority as the young accountant of the year while CPA Evarist Bariyo Mwesigye was awarded with the ICPAU Gold service award.
Speaking at the award ceremony held at Imperial Resort Beach Hotel in Entebbe, the Director of Public Prosecution, Justice Mike Chibitta urged the accountants to endeavor to learn new things in order to improve service delivery for their customers
“An educated man who cannot learn new things and unlearn old ones is more illiterate than one that cannot read and write. As the world evolve, there is need for each of you progression to endeavor to learn new things so that you remain competitive in service delivery,” he said
Accountancy Service Awards organised by ICPAU are premium awards of excellence aimed st recognizing persons and entities that have made outstanding contribution to the advancement of the accountancy profession in Uganda. They are held every year at the final day of the annual Accountancy seminar.
These year’s awards were held under the theme ‘Building Uganda Through Services’
