Police in Ibanda district are investigating the murder of a 56-year-old man, who was hacked to death for reasons still unknown.
The deceased, Herbert Tindyebwa was the LC1 Chairperson for Mushunga 1 Village in Ishongororo SubCounty.
Police have since arrested one person suspected to have been involved in the murder.
The suspect has been identified as Cleophas Nayebare, 35, a resident of Rwamwanja in Kataryebwa Town Council in neighbouring Kamwenge District.
The Rwizi regional police spokesperson ASP Samson Kasasira tells us the deceased was waylaid on his way to his home at around 10 in the night Nayebare, who followed him toward his house.
After trailing him for about 300 metres, Police believes Nayebare stabbed the victim with sharp object and left him seriously injured.
Tindyebwa was found bleeding by his step son Twinomugisha Richard.
“He then informed the Chairman’s family members who rushed him to Ibanda Hospital from where he later died,” Kasasira says.
“We have done post mortem and the body has been given to the family for the burial as investigations carry on.”
