The Police in Ibanda district are hunting a 20-year-old man who is said to have brutally murdered his 70-year-old grandmother over land.
The suspect is James Asiimwe, a resident of Rwengwe II in Kinkyenkye sub county.
He is said to have killed his grandmother Clemencia Kadidi on Wednesday by strangling her first and later cutting off her head.
Asiimwe is Clemencia’s late sister’s grandson, as she raised him from childhood after losing his parents.
Silver Bainomugisha, a relative to the deceased, says the two had disagreements over land with Asiimwe accusing his grandmother of denying him the land that used to belong to his parents.
The locals say after the tragic incident, Asiimwe first went to his aunt and boastfully confessed of what he had just done. He later on went into hiding.
SP Emily Angomoku, the Ibanda District Police Commander (DPC) says a man hunt is on for Asiimwe to have him pay for the grave act.
