Residents of Bufunda division in Ibanda Municipality yesterday erupted in protest and blocked Nyamirima-Bwahwa road, which had been rendered impassable by rains.
Using stones and hoes, demonstrators dug big pits on the road, planting banana stems and dumping logs across the road.
One of the angry residents, James Kandahura told Chimpreports that the said road had not been graded for 15 years.
“This road has been like this for the last 15years, and now it has become worse because of heavy rains,” said Kandahura
Police came in but found hard time restoring calm, until the district police commander SP Chebene Rodgers intervened.
Chebene advised residents to keep calm and cover the pits, as he contacted district leaders to consider Nyamirima-Bwahwa road as a matter of emergency.
The Police boss said he too was concerned about the road.
“I know that ours is security but these leaders meet in council every time; they should rectify this” said the DPC.
