A total of 43 farmers in Ibanda district including 16 youths on Wednesday received heifers under the Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) programme to enable them improve their house hold income.
The Ibanda Resident District Commissioner, Eliasto Akatuhebwa, while handing over the heifers at the district headquarters, cautioned the beneficiaries against selling them.
“It is an offence to sell these heifers; anyone found doing so will be prosecuted before the courts of law” he warned.
The RDC hailed government for its efforts to improve the lives of the people, especially those in rural areas.
Lt. Joseph Bataringaya, OWC coordinator Ibanda district, urged farmers to always ensure prompt vaccination of their animals, ensure proper hygiene in kraals, so that the animals are not hit by diseases.
The LC 5 chairman, Mellechiades Kajwengye said the heifers will play a big role in improving the household incomes of people in the district.
“Majority of our people entirely rely on farming in order to earn a living, yet they have been complaining of lack of capital to buy animals” Kajwengye noted
He urged the Government to allocate more funds to the OWC programme, so many more farmers can benefit from it.
