President Museveni has said he will only leave power when he identifies useful and more capable leaders to replace him.
Speaking at a campaign meeting in Rukungiri Town on Monday, the NRM presidential candidate took a swipe at his former Bush War comrades-turned opposition leaders Dr Kizza Besigye, Gen Mugisha Muntu and Gen Henry Tumukunde, saying they cannot do what he has done for Uganda.
“They know my mission in politics but want to incite me to break my principles. They are shouting that I should go as if I don’t have where to go,” Mr Museveni, who was speaking in Runyakitara, told NRM leaders from Rukungiri and Kanungu districts.
He insisted that there is nothing he wants in politics but only serving the country, adding that the three former Bush War heroes failed the missions he sent them to serve.
“If you failed to do what I told you, don’t bring your chaos by asking me to go. It is the voters to decide. But if I go, you who are useless when I am here and want to push you like a wheelbarrow (will stay). Let me stay since Ugandans still want me. I will go if a useful person comes and I see where to leave Uganda,” he added.
Rukungiri District is an opposition stronghold, which has in the last two elections been voting Dr Besigye and opposition candidates at lower levels. Rukungiri is also home to Gen Tumukunde and Dr Besigye.
