I Belong to ANT but Still Love People Power – Kassiano Wadri

A week after Arua Municipality Member of Parliament Hon Kassiano Wadri was unveiled as a Member of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) party, he has distanced himself from betraying Hon Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine and the team, who campaigned for him in the by-election that brought him to Parliament.

After the public announcement was made that Wadri joined ANT, various individuals including politicians and social media activists attacked him for being unfair, unrealistic and a hypocrite who betrayed the People Power pressure group- now National Unity Platform party colleagues, who sacrificed everything to ensure that he joins the August house.

Addressing journalists at his home in Arua this week, Wadri remarked that although he joined ANT, he still belongs to the People Power pressure group.

“I am a member of People Power, it’s not a political party, it’s a pressure group where all people from like minded political parties belong. I am still the coordinator of People Power in West Nile and I belong to Alliance,” Wadri said.

He added that before going to Arua, they (Wadri and Kyagulanyi) first participated in the Jinja by-election campaigns together so they knew each other from far back.

In 2018, Hon Wadri was elected as the Arua Municipality Member of parliament replacing Hon Ibrahim Abiriga who was murdered on his way home in Matuga, Wakiso district.

In the conclusion of the campaigns for the Arua by-election, a car in President Museveni’s motorcade was pelted with stones, an incident that led to the arrest of several opposition figures like Hon Kyagulanyi, Mityana Municipality MP Hon Francis Zaake and several others who were later charged with treason.

These charges are still pending hearing before the High Court.
