There is tension and fear in Hoima District after a young man died with symptoms similar to those of Ebola.
The deceased, who had just completed his A’ Level was resident of Kyarwabuyamba in Hoima municipality.
It was alleged that he died after intense vomiting of blood. He reportedly had red eyes, passing watery stool with high fever.
The Hoima District Health Inspector Fredrick Byenume who was part of the team that rushed to the scene said samples were picked from the deceased to ascertain the cause of his death.
He says samples have been sent to the Uganda Virus Research Institute Entebbe for testing and results are expected tomorrow.
The Hoima Resident District Commissioner Samuel Araali Kisembo says the caretaker of the deceased also shortly started exhibiting similar symptoms.
Kisembo adds that two samples taken from the deceased have tested positive for Hepatitis B according to preliminary medical tests.
The death was widely suspected to be of Ebola according to residents who called leaders for rescue.
Medics rushed to the scene dressed in protective gears, obtained samples from the deceased and used a no-touch technique of burying the deceased.
The deceased has been laid to rest in Munteme, Kiziranfumbi Sub County in Kikuube district.
