The Ministry of Health has on Tuesday revised the total number of COVID-19 recoveries in Uganda to 958.
Although the Ministry has been publishing new COVID-19 confirmed cases daily, the recoveries were last published 3 days ago on Sunday July 18th 2020 and they were then at 1,048.
However, the recoveries then included both Ugandans and foreigners.
According to Dr Henry Mwebesa, the Director General Health Services in the Ministry of Health, the foreign truck drivers have now been excluded from the cumulative total number of COVID-19 recoveries dropping the number to 958.
“The Ministry of Health would like to clarify that Uganda has now excluded foreign truck drivers who were treated and recovered at our hospitals among our recoveries tally,” he announced.
Although the foreigners who have recovered from COVID-19 in Uganda were being tallied on Uganda’s total number of recoveries, the foreign COVID-19 active cases were not being counted on Uganda’s cumulative total confirmed COVID-19 cases.
Meanwhile, Dr Mwebesa further announced that 3 new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Uganda today Tuesday bringing the cumulative total number of infections in the country to 1,072.
The new cases were confirmed from 2,283 samples tested for COVID-19 on Monday.
All the 3 new COVID-19 confirmed, Dr Mwebesa said are Ugandan truck drivers.
“All 3 confirmed cases are truck drivers who arrived via Elegu, Malaba and Madi Opei points of entry,” he said.
In the same vein, 9 foreign truck drivers (8 Kenyans and 1 Eritrean) tested positive for COVID-19 and were denied entry into Uganda as per the presidential directive that only COVID-19 negative foreign truck drivers be allowed entry into the country.
A total of 2,383 samples were tested for COVID-19 on Monday and they included 1,670 from points of entry and 713 from alerts and contacts to previously confirmed cases.
Uganda currently has a total of only 114 COVID-19 active cases on admission.
Ever since Uganda began testing for COVID-19, a total of 250,029 tests have so far been done.
Currently, Uganda has a cumulative total of 1,072 COVID-19 confirmed cases, 114 active cases on admission, 958 recoveries and no fatalities.
President Museveni will today Tuesday at 8:00pm address the nation about COVID-19 related issues.
