Police in Rukungiri have recovered an AK rifle with 21 rounds of ammunition in a garden in Bugangari sub county.
Elly Maate the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman says t the rifle with and its rounds were on Tuesday recovered from the land belonging to one Fred Turyakirirahe a retired teacher and a resident of Rwenjero cell in Bugangari sub county.
Police says the retired teacher found the gun while he was cutting down elephant grass.
On finding the gun, Turyakirirahe immediately contacted Bugangari police station who in turn informed the district police commander who together with the OCCID and SOCO visited the scene and recovered it.
The riffle was found rusted and upon being cleaned its serial number UG – UPDF – A451015 indicated that it belonged to the national army.
Maate says that police commenced investigations to know the origin of the gun and how it ended up there in this place.
