Gun Control: Mbarara Private Security Companies to Lose Licenses

The Mbarara District Police Commander Jaffar Magyezi during a press briefing yesterday attributed the soaring number of guns in wrong hands to the security companies which have failed to keep truck and punish their workers who misuse them.

Magyezi further cautioned that individual guards will be held responsible once they are found misusing their guns, on top of their companies losing their operating licenses.

He said that a number of security agencies around Mbarara recruit young boys and don’t even give them proper training, which gives the serial robbers both the physical and psychological advantage to take away their guns.

“Most of these boys are seriously underpaid, making it difficult for them to resist any offers from the bad guys to take away their gun for a moment,” he said.

The DPC sounded a warning to some of the companies which include United Heroes Security Organization, Securex Agency limited, Askar and many others where suspects have been picked in connection to negligence of gun use in the district.
