Gulu NRM Mayoral Aspirant Arrested

Police in Gulu on Friday arrested and detained, Mr. Alfred Okwonga one of the mayoral aspirantS for Gulu City for allegedly flouting the Covid-19 guidelines.

Mr. Okwonga was picked alongside two other people; Lucky Anywar and Charles Oyet who were reportedly moving in a Convoy of 10 Cars while returning from Nomination at the Gulu district nomination centre.

Police says Okwonga and his people defied the Electoral Commission ban on moving with a convoy.

The Electoral commission guideline stipulates that an aspirant should move with only 2 people; that is the nominator and the seconder.

Police spokesperson for Aswa region Jimmy Patrick Okema confirmed the arrest saying all the vehicles were impounded and parked at Gulu central Police.

The suspects he said will be charged with disobedience of lawful orders.

Mr. Okwonga was nominated under the ticket of the National Resistance Movement Party.

He is a businessman and a director of Gulu Institute of Health sciences
