Police in Gulu on Monday arrested two members of Parliament for allegedly inciting violence and mobilizing people for an illegal demonstration.
The two MPs are Gilbert Olanya for Kilak South and Samuel Odonga-Otto for Aruu North.
These were picked along with Mr. Kelly Komakech, Chairman of Pece division in Gulu town and one female activist identified as Stella Kijange.
Aswa region police spokesman Jimmy Patrick Okema confirmed this development saying that these leaders are currently being held at Gulu central Police station.
Okema revealed that the MPs led a procession of people from Customs Corner, along Gulu-Nimule road and they came up to Cereleno Market in the centre of Gulu town.
They allegedly held placards and burnt tires with the intention of blocking truck drivers from going to Elegu border point in Amuru district.
Police rushed quickly to the scene and quelled the demonstration and arrested the protesters.
Police say these leaders will be charged with Inciting Violence and negligence contrary to section 171 of the penal code Act.
The case has been registered under SD 23/1/2020 pending Investigations.
