Gulu Magistrate Isaac Kintu on Wednesday remanded to Gulu Central Prison a 30-year-Old Johnson Twinomugisa for allegedly defiling a six-year-old girl
Court heard that 26th. August from Kabedopong A, in Bar-dege Division in Gulu Municipality, the suspect lured the minor into in his grass-thatched hut and had sexual intercourse with her.
Being that Aggravated defilement is capital offence triable only by High Court, the suspect wasn’t allow to make a plea.
The maximum penalty for the offence of Aggravated defilement as per Sections 129 (3) and (4) (a) of the Penal Code Act, is death.
Where the death penalty is not imposed, the next option in terms of gravity of sentence is that of life imprisonment.
Court also saw a medical form of the suspect that reveals that the Suspect is HIV positive.
The Magistrate remanded Twinomugisha to Gulu Central Prison until 11th October when he will be brought back for further mention of his case, as police and the state attorney continue their investigation into the case.
The parents of the minor told journalists outside court that they hoped Justice would prevail.
