Police in Kabale district on Wednesday recovered a hand grenade in one of the iron ore mines in Buhara Sub County.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi regional police spokesman says the explosive was recovered at Kyase B village in the piece of land that belongs to Sino Mineral Investment Company Ltd.
The company was formerly owned by a UPDF officer named Sulaiman Kajura who died about 15 years ago.
Kajura’s wife Sipiranzo Kajura told authorities about the explosive and revealed that her late husband informed her about the hidden explosive on his death bed.
Maate says the grenade was recovered at around 12:00 pm and detonated on site by the Uganda police bomb squad headed by Aip Bapfakurera Poltaz.
“We commend the woman for her braveness in volunteering that information for the safety of our people in that area,” Maate said.
